Rugged Computing
Updated 2026-09-06
The previous generation, priced honestly
Same protection class, same batteries, same ports as its successor. The silicon, the radios and the warranty clock are what date it. Every figure here is Dell's.

Standards that apply here
Manufacturers cite these in spec sheets. Which ones actually protect the buyer, and which ones are marketing.
MIL-STD-810H
US Department of Defense environmental test method
The reference for drop, vibration, thermal and altitude claims. Read the specific method numbers — a 'MIL-810 tested' claim without a method is meaningless.
IP65 / IP66
IEC 60529 ingress protection
IP65 handles rain and dust for field service. IP66 is the minimum for outdoor utilities and marine.
IEC 60068-2-27
Mechanical shock test
The separate shock standard behind vehicle-mount and drop-test claims.
